The NWA World Heavyweight Championship is an incredibly prestigious belt, and has been carried by legends the likes of Lou Thesz, Harley Race, Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair and Sting. At one point, it even shared a lineage with the WWF World Championship until the World Wide Wrestling Federation split from the NWA in 1963. In 2002 the NWA Championship was made exclusive to Total Nonstop Action, and in 2005 Christian left WWE to join the still-fledgling promotion. At TNAs Against All Odds event in February 2006, Christian defeated Jeff Jarrett to win his first World Heavyweight Championship. Christian would lose the title to Jarrett a few months later, but would pick it back up in a triple-threat match against Sting and Abyss. He was later stripped of the title for refusing to defend it at NWA live events, and this signalled the end of TNAs partnership with the organisation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKDuWMmdBQo While Christian wouldnt capture another world title in TNA, it was the kickstart his career needed and in 2009 he returned to WWE and won the ECW Championship. Eventually, hed be a two-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, putting him in an elite class of stars who have won both WWE and NWA World titles.
