In WCW, one man who took OHaire under his wing and showed him the ropes how the infamous political structure worked, how to get from point A to point B was Bill Goldberg. The two men shared an interest in working out and ignoring office politics and backstabbing wrestlers alike: both were there to do the work, and thats all. It helped that both OHaire and Goldberg were also realistic about the industry they loved. Neither was a mark for the business, but neither failed to show respect for it. Its telling that upon entering WWF/WWE, both men refused to allow the company to control them: OHaire would request his release upon realising that he was not being used to his full potential, and never looked back, and Goldberg deliberately signed a one-year deal and upon its expiry, left and never really looked back either. Astonishingly, OHaire also credited Vince Russos replacement as WCW booker, John Laurinaitis with helping him out as a rookie. It seems Johnny Ace may have developed his reputation for backstabbing during his WWE tenure. Later on, in WWE, Paul Big Show Wight was OHaires frequent travelling buddy and friend, helping him out with his not-inconsiderable stroke and going to bat for him time and again. Its good to have friends with influence.
