9. Part Of The Reason I Left WWE Was To Write A Reality TV Show!
I wrote a television pilot for Fox, calling it 'Rope Opera'. The show didnt get picked up because it was reality TV based - before there was such a thing as REALITY TV! The writer on the show would have been the main character. I actually wanted Matthew Modine (Vision Quest) to play me. Ive never said that publicly before. Wanting to produce 'Rope Opera' was the beginning of me actually leaving the WWE. When I first pitched 'Rope Opera' to Vince McMahon, he wanted to change the entire concept to be more of a work. He also wanted to OWN the rights to the script. That was the beginning of me and him not seeing eye-to-eye. A few months later I left the company. Fox eventually passed on 'Rope Opera' because they simply didnt get it. In their own words, wrestling was nothing more than two guys beating each other up in their underwear, and that was the show they wanted me to write. I refused.
