10 Things You Didn't Know About Vince Russo

9. Part Of The Reason I Left WWE Was To Write A Reality TV Show!

Vince Russo I wrote a television pilot for Fox, calling it 'Rope Opera'. The show didn€™t get picked up because it was reality TV based - before there was such a thing as REALITY TV! The €œwriter€ on the show would have been the main character. I actually wanted Matthew Modine (€œVision Quest€) to play me. I€™ve never said that publicly before. Wanting to produce 'Rope Opera' was the beginning of me actually leaving the WWE. When I first pitched 'Rope Opera' to Vince McMahon, he wanted to change the entire concept to be more of a €œwork€. He also wanted to OWN the rights to the script. That was the beginning of me and him not seeing eye-to-eye. A few months later I left the company. Fox eventually €œpassed€ on 'Rope Opera' because they simply didn€™t €œget it€. In their own words, wrestling was nothing more than €œtwo guys beating each other up in their underwear€, and that was the show they wanted me to write. I refused.
