7. He’s Not Really Developed Since Joining WWE
I’ve mentioned that, out of the former members of the Shield, Ambrose was the one originally earmarked for greatness by fans in the know. Rollins was the wunderkind but barely able to speak; Reigns was greener than a seasick lettuce. Ambrose was the hardcore veteran with the gift of the gab, a charismatic iconoclast who initially held the stable together with his intense, magnetic interviews.
Over two years since the dissolution of the Shield, and Rollins has more or less conquered his little promo problem and blossomed into one of the WWE roster’s most compelling performers, while Reigns has matured into a fine, if predictable wrestler. Ambrose, on the other hand, hasn’t changed a bit.
The fact is, the Dean Ambrose we first saw debut at Survivor Series 2012 and the Dean Ambrose who wrestled Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam last weekend are virtually identical. Even wrestlers as experienced and versatile as Bryan Danielson and CM Punk back in the day found themselves adapting and thriving in the high-pressure environment of WWE.
Not Ambrose. He’s changed his gear and his music since the Shield split, and that’s pretty much it… and it’s not like there wasn’t (and isn’t) room to improve. In fact, there’s a case to answer that he’s actually regressed...
