10 Things I Hate About WWE Champion Dean Ambrose
2. He’s Heeling It Up As The Babyface Hero
It seems no one’s given Ambrose the memo that he’s the kingpin of Smackdown Live - because he’s been raving about being ‘the man’ to beat ever since cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcase on Seth Rollins.
Judging by his barely coherent rambling on Smackdown Live, Ambrose is suddenly the keeper of the main event, giving Ziggler the contemptuous old 'you don't have what it takes' bit. First of all - Ambrose is supposed to be playing the courageous, nails-hard babyface warrior, welcoming all comers, thriving on competition. Cutting sneering promos to Ziggler’s face about the man being worthless opposition seems cheap. It’s all true, but it’s still cheap.
Secondly, isn't that the line Triple H fed Ambrose only six months ago, and with exactly the same reasoning? Didn’t The Game claim that Ambrose hadn't won anything worth a crap for ages and wasn't main event material? It was true about Ambrose then, just like it’s probably still true about him now.
In a post-SummerSlam interview, Ambrose admitted that he’d been a bit of a jerk in his promos leading up to the match with Ziggler, leading people to speculate that he’d been asked to heel it up a little to help promote this babyface versus babyface challenge.
Lazy all over again, he tried to use this cooldown interview to reset his character back to Cool Hand Luke again after weeks of being a sh*tty person in the ring, including treating Ziggler as a barely worthwhile peon during the SummerSlam match itself.
It’s arguable whether he could have pulled that off even if he’d put the effort in… but once again, he didn’t bother, stumbling his way to the end and coasting by on his drawling charm.
