10 Things John Cena STILL Can’t Actually Do

7. Top Rope Famouser

Wrestling's so much more about the space between the moves than the moves themselves, so here's one last dig at Cena's repertoire before continuing the character assassination with more targeted shots.

Like the Springboard Stunner, Cena's rocker dropper from the top deck was introduced to relative indifference and without noticeable rationale or reason. Cena's insertion of the manoeuvre added dynamism without depth - his inability to deploy the spot as a death-defying last gasp instead neutralised both its threat in kayfabe and appeal in reality.

Again, as is often the case with 'Big Match John', the fact that his execution of the spot is patchy at best remains part of the problem. Taking such a huge chance for the end result of grazing his victim's scalp with his trainer sole doesn't particularly provide a suitable suspension of disbelief. The subsequent sell-job is thus equally errant.

In 2017, WWE.com released a video montage of him hitting the move cleanly and crisply on a variety of unsuspecting opponents. It was presumably the hardest task the diligent archive room staffers were given that day.
