In the '80s, before he signed with WWE, many promoters and wrestling authorities thought that Owen Hart was the breakout star of the Hart Family. Of all the great talents to come out of Stu Hart's Stampede Wrestling promotion in Calgary, the youngest member of the Hart family was the one with the most potential. This was a widely accepted belief throughout the professional wrestling industry, and it spread in large part due to Owen's innovative offense and wrestling style. There was a buzz surrounding the Hart family's baby boy.

This was quite the opinion too, as Stampede Wrestling produced some of the WWF's biggest superstars of the time period. Jake 'The Snake' Roberts, Junkyard Dog, Bad News Brown, Rick Martel, and Harley Race all came through Stu Hart's promotion, not to mention the numerous Federation champions such as the British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith and Dynamite Kid), Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart), Don Muraco, and the Honky Tonk Man.

For Owen to outshine these names in terms of career potential says a ton about the talent possessed by the future King Of Harts.
