10 Things You Need To Know About Ric Flair's Original WWF Run

6. He Actually Wrestled Hulk Hogan In 1991

Upon Ric Flair€™s debut in WWE, the dream match with Hulk Hogan on a major stage seemed to be inevitable. Well, they didn€™t quite make it there. Flair and Hogan should have been saved for the highest stage possible. Instead, the match was done at house shows in major cities toward the end of the €œhouse show era.€ Subsequently, their first match happened in Oakland, Ca. BUT NO ONE OUTSIDE THE AREA KNEW ABOUT IT! Not only did no one know about the Oakland match, they also fought in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Boston, New York and Boston in virtual anonymity. The reaction to the matches wasn€™t exactly what WWE was looking for, but it€™s fair to ask, were they really given a chance to succeed? How big a deal could a non-televised match really be? It was a short sighted decision, but turned out to be the only one they could make due to timing, and Hogan€™s ambitions beyond the wrestling business. Might as well try to profit somehow from the match-up, but to minimally promote it borders on insanity.
