10 Things You Need To Know About Shotgun Saturday Night

10. Triple H Vs "The Nature Boy"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAQiIdDf8Zc No, Ric Flair never appeared on Shotgun Saturday Night, but Buddy Landel certainly did. A six-year veteran by 1985, "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel was actually all set to become the NWA World Champion, and that's where Landel's story hits the skids. When expected to debut in the Mid-Atlantic territory in '85, Landel's plane arrived late on the night he was expected to start the angle that would lead to him becoming champion. After arriving late, it began a series of issues between Landel and NWA management that saw him eventually leave the Mid-Atlantic area and head back to his native Tennessee. Ten years later in 1995, Landel signed to the WWF after a successful run in Jim Cornette's Smokey Mountain Wrestling. Signed at roughly the same time as Steve Austin, Landel's initial push stalled after he slipped on a patch of ice and in falling, tore his quad. Never quite the same competitor after the quad injury for many reasons, Landel wrestling Triple H for literally 90 seconds on Shotgun's February 27, 1999 edition - given his amazing backstory as a just-miss top of the card competitor - is sad. As well, add that only two further episodes of Shotgun were taped, it's actually even sadder.
