10 Things NXT Did Specifically To Beat AEW
2. Putting All The Titles On The Line
This week's episode feels almost like a TakeOver. The build we've had on TV thus far has done little but establish the pecking order for all three of the major titles on the brand, and they'll all thus be defended on the USA Network this very Wednesday. Matt Riddle vs Adam Cole, Candice LeRae vs Shayna Baszler, and The Street Profits vs The Undisputed Era all feel like TakeOver quality matches.
With AEW launching this week, NXT needs to pull out all the stops in terms of both spectacle and match quality - two things virtually every TakeOver has had in spades. Their Wednesday night rivals will want to take WWE on as the place where fans of great wrestling get their weekly entertainment, but they're still yet to consistently put PPV cards together that are of the normal NXT Showpiece standard.
Their debut TV broadcast will be all about place-setting, about introductions, about making sure that the less well-known names get their gimmicks over and their big stars get given the platform to turn heads. Great matches will undoubtedly feature, but they won't be the focus. Meanwhile over on the USA Network, you might be missing MOTY contenders.
