An argument could certainly have been made for Johnny Gargano picking up the NXT Championship, but Almas retaining was the right move. We are still in the early days of Cien’s reign on top, and Johnny Wrestling has other things on his mind moving forward. Andrade and the NXT title seem like a perfect match right now.

Almas retaining was one thing, but doing so in a clean manner may well be the most important note to take from this match. Zelina Vega got involved throughout the match, but she was eventually ran off by an enraged Candice LeRae. This left Gargano and Almas to go at it one-on-one, and La Sombra proved to be the better man.

Andrade’s initial championship win was seen by some to be a fluke. He has established himself as champion here with a strong win over an extremely game challenge. El Idolo is more than likely going to drop the title to Aleister Black in New Orleans, but the last six months may well have saved his entire WWE career. Almas retaining was 100% the right decision to make in Philadelphia.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
