10 Things Paul Heyman Wants You To Forget About ECW

8. Bloodthirsty Fans

ECW was unique whereas the fans were as much a part of the show as the wrestlers were, sometimes to a fault. Extreme Championship Wrestling operated out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a town not exactly known for its manners or good behavior. This is the town that booed Santa Claus, cheered when Michael Irvin broke his neck, and committed other various acts of thuggery throughout the years. So, it was no surprise that this city with that kind of reputation produced the ECW crowd. ECW fans were some of the most knowledgeable in the business but were also the most unforgiving and bloodthirsty. They would turn on wrestlers seemingly without warning and didn't give certain matches a chance to even get started before they decided it stunk. The high demand of these fans almost guaranteed that no one new would be given a chance to get over. They also loved to bring up past gimmicks of certain wrestlers and chant their names constantly. While it could be entertaining as a viewer, it could also come off as low-class and annoying. The fans were certainly part of the charm of ECW but they overwhelmed the show on more than one occasion. Fans should definitely immerse themselves in the show but no one ever bought a ticket to listen to the crowd.
