10 Things That Have Lost All Meaning In WWE

7. The WrestleMania Undercard

WrestleMania will always be the event around which the wrestling calendar is built. As a spectacle, WWE’s signature pay-per-view is unmatched, and while it doesn’t always promise great matches, it usually guarantees plenty of memorable moments. It has come to define WWE’s “entertainment first” approach over the decades, and while its main events still carry a certain level of prestige, the same can’t be said for the undercard.

Unfortunately, WrestleMania line-ups have become an annual challenge to cram as many wrestlers onto the show as possible, without giving them any real reason to be there. The result is a usually a series of poorly built and hastily assembled multi-person matches with little to no backstory, thus rendering huge chunks of the five to six hour show skippable.

Making it onto the ‘Mania card used to mean something. It was a reward for dedication, hard work, and getting over with the crowd, but that’s no longer the case. While the likes of Samoa Joe missed out this year, it often feels like WWE only pad the undercard with these meaningless matches as a way of justifying WM’s increasingly ridiculous runtime, and in the end, the viewers are the real losers.
