10 Things That Must Happen At NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 11

2. The Coronation Of The Cleaner

Kenny Omega was a shock winner of the 2016 G1 Climax, but from the moment Hirooki Goto's shoulders spent three seconds on the mat at the end of that incredible tournament everything fell into place. Kenny Omega was made to be a headlining professional wrestler, he was made to be a major heel in a major wrestling promotion. The Cleaner has the ability, the character and the dedication to make a great IWGP Heavyweight Champion.

There is every chance Kazuchika Okada could end the night still in possession of the championship, but it would be strange to give Omega the push of a lifetime only to feed him to The Rainmaker on the biggest New Japan stage of the year. The first gaijin winner of the G1 must surely become the first gaijin winner of a Wrestle Kingdom main event.

If Okada wins, who does he face next? Naito? Shibata? Ishii? All great matches for sure, but Okada could benefit from a break from the title scene. Omega offers freshness on top, and title matches with Shibata, Tanahashi, Ishii and even a returning Michael Elgin would be exciting to say the least.

Of course, Kenny Omega winning the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 11 sets up his first challenger, a story that has been held off for far too long.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
