New Japan is already onto a winner simply by booking the IWGP Tag Team Championship match. NJPW fans watched the World Tag League with no small amount of trepidation, as the possibility of yet another match involving K.E.S, War Machine and Guerrillas of Destiny seemed likely. Luckily for all involved, SANADA and EVIL persevered to set up a fresh match at the Dome.

Who should win this match? It isn’t quite as simply as it seems. Many will claim that SANADA and EVIL must win the gold and anchor the division throughout the year, and the argument is very convincing. The heavyweight tag division has been miserable for years, and a top drawer native team are desperately needed.

Killer Elite Squad are one of the more solid teams in the division though, and are arguably the only clear heel duo in the promotion. It will be no surprise whatsoever if Archer and Davey Boy Jr. walk away from the Tokyo Dome with their tag team titles intact. Either way, this must be the start of a revitalised tag roster.
