10 Things That Must Happen In NJPW In 2018

1. Build To Omega/Okada IV At Wrestle Kingdom 13

Some fans were disappointed when Tetsuya Naito defeated Kenny Omega in the final of the G1 Climax, robbing fans of another Tokyo Dome main event between Omega and Kazuchika Okada. Such complaints were silly of course, as New Japan has shown itself to be an absolute master promotion when it comes to the perfectly-weighted slow build.

With that in mind, Omega and Okada must be kept apart throughout 2018. The logical main event for Wrestle Kingdom 13 right now is a fourth battle between the two, only with the previous roles reversed. At some point late in 2018, Omega must defeat Naito for the IWGP Championship, before defending it against G1 Climax winner Okada at the Dome.

And who will win that match? January 2019 is a long, long way away, and there is plenty of drama to come in 2018 before that. Omega has the small matter of Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 12, after all. 2018 is shaping up to be an incredible year for professional wrestling, and NJPW should be at the very forefront of that.

What a fantastic time to be a wrestling fan.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
