10 Things That Would Happen In A Real State Of The WWE Union Address
3. Improving Foreign Relations
WWE has done a horrible job of reaching out to non-American audiences over the years. It’s hard to argue otherwise. They've simply treated far too many wrestlers from Mexico, India and Japan (to name a few) as jokes or as racist caricatures for us to feel good about any minor changes so far. Vince needs to let us know that it is a new era in his company, and that wrestlers will be able to succeed no matter where they are from.
The next few years will hopefully see major changes in that area. Right now the company has done a better job of pushing wrestlers from other cultures...at least in NXT. Shinsuke Nakamura and Asuka are the singles champions on the brand, and will likely make their main roster debuts sometime in 2017. The Bollywood Boyz have been getting a bit of an opportunity there as well, and Ho Ho Lun and a handful of Chinese wrestlers have been signed to the company. This is real progress.
In the coming years, China and India are going to be major markets for WWE, so the sooner they get around to pushing some of their talent from those countries as series competitors, the better off they’ll be.
This is a move that is decades overdue, as Vince has a pretty shameful past of treating his foreign wrestlers as non-stereotypes, but things are certainly moving in the right direction. He would likely point to the success of various talents to let us know that he and his team are committed to becoming more inclusive.
