The goal of any wrestling company should be to try to follow the basic concepts that are involved with the pro wrestling industry and then do whatever you can to be unique on top of that. In TNA's case, one of the unique things they did was create the six sided ring. It was their way of telling wrestling fans that you're used to seeing the four sided ring in WWE, you were used to it in WCW and you can see it at any indy show you go to, but if you want something different then we're going to give you the six sides. Because it's six sides, it's bigger than a normal ring. It also afforded the talent to try some different things especially in tag matches. The six sided ring was in place starting in 2004. In 2010 it was removed because Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan were running things. They felt like taking away the uniqueness of TNA by putting in a regular four sided ring. This past June was when TNA brought back the six sided ring after they did an online poll with their fans and the overwhelming majority of them voted to bring it back. There have been some complaints from wrestlers about the ring. For example, Austin Aries talked about how when you're on the top rope doing a move your feet aren't as together as they are on a 4x4 ring, so it takes some getting used to. There are also adjustments about how to do certain moves. What matters about the ring is that the fans loved it and it's a signature feature for the company, so it's smart for them to have brought it back the way they did. Good business move for TNA.
