10 Things We Just Learned From Triple H About NXT & WWE
6. How The Brand Split Will Affect NXT
There's the big blue chip question: what happens to the primary development territory when the brand split/extension happens and presumably some of the talent jumps to either Raw or Smackdown to beef out the ranks.
For Triple H, this is not part of the downfall of NXT as some are heralding. The key point he raised in his opening assessment of NXT is that it's an ever changing beast. As he notes, if you look at the roster now, "it's almost completely different from last year, and yet it's still driving, still growing, still becoming bigger and bigger."
That's not only a great indicator for the future of WWE, it's a great indicator that NXT as a third brand could survive massive change. That's precisely the strength of the brand that when superstars are called up, they don't take the appeal of NXT with them fatally.
"If you look at the last couple of years in the growth of NXT, you can look at various points in time where people said, "Oh, no, like these characters or these performers are getting called up... they're doomed." You know, and then we made somebody else the lead figures of the show and the lead characters. And that's the challenge to it, and that's the beauty of it. It's always fresh. It's always different. It always feels like there's something new going on to me."
NXT is a proving ground, and it always will be, and for Triple H, the message is clearly that as new talents come in and grow their brands, the NXT brand as a whole grows alongside it. As long as they continue to offer fans the chance to be "ahead of the curve" and to appreciate sars before they step up, they will continue to hold sway over fans.
