This might've been reported somewhere before, but it was news to yours truly.

Cody admitted to mixing whiskey with Gatorade and drinking it backstage. He’d mentally checked out by 2016, but claims the intention was never to get drunk or messed up. Instead, the frustrated Stardust was hoping his antics would catch WWE’s attention and make them cut the cord for him.

That’s rough, but Rhodes was going through a lot after his dad’s death. Perhaps realising that, WWE didn’t fire him for acting out. No, he fired them in 2016 and decided enough was enough. It was time to stop bashing his head against a proverbial brick wall and see what else was out there in the wrestling world.

It was a massive risk, obviously, but Cody felt like it was the best option open to him. What was the alternative? Continue to be absolutely f*cking down about playing Stardust and feeding on creative scraps every week?
