News flash: Austin Aries didn't just wear those shades during his stint as colour commentator on 205 Live and Raw to look snazzy. No, he wore them to cover up that horrendous eye injury. He even asked Vince McMahon for permission before doing it. That wouldn't be the last interaction Austin would have with the boss when playing announcer.

As soon as he returned backstage following his first appearance behind the commentary desk, Austin was stunned to be greeted by a beaming McMahon. Shaking his hand, Vince told Aries he was a "complete natural" as a colour guy, and then said nobody had ever had as strong a debut before. That's high praise indeed, and not kudos Aries took lightly.

He and Jericho did then ponder why Austin had been released by WWE in July. If McMahon thought so highly of Austin's work as an announcer, why wasn't it pitched that he become one full time if creative had nothing for him as a wrestler?
