At the Souled Out 2000 pay-per-view, Chris Benoit defeated Sid Vicious to become the new WCW World Champion. The very next evening, the Canadian wasn't even present on Monday Nitro. Before the broadcast went live, he met with company officials and handed the belt back over. Benoit's WCW adventure was firmly over.

This raises a question about the possibility of Benoit bringing the actual WCW World Title with him when signing for the WWF. Bruce Prichard is quick to shoot the notion down, noting that the WWF got into legal hot water (with WCW) when trying something similar back in 1991 with Ric Flair.

It's unclear whether or not Benoit had the chance to pull such a stunt, but Prichard says that Vince McMahon was far from interested in the idea anyway. After all, his company were now on top of the ratings war, so there was no need to even mention the competition.

The WWF wanted Chris Benoit to start anew in their promotion, not talk about his history with someone else and market him that way.
