According to McMahon, he left WWE in 2009 to focus more on family and try to see what he could achieve on his own. Those looking for some juicy gossip about Triple H and Stephanie McMahon's increasing power behind the scenes may be disappointed here. Shane doesn't talk about anything like that.

He did reveal why he returned in 2016 though.

Again, it was for his three boys. They started talking about how cool it'd be to see their dad wrestle in person after trawling back through his old matches on the WWE Network. Shane admits he couldn't resist playing "real-life superhero" to his kids, and knew that he didn't have forever to make that happen.

He brought his lads along for the ride at WrestleMania 32 because he didn't know if he'd be "one and done" after that. There were no long-term plans for Shane beyond 'Mania's Hell In A Cell match opposite The Undertaker, and he wanted his kids to walk down the ramp with him just incase it was a one-off.
