Post-WrestleMania, the WWF's booking called for The Undertaker to march on towards Backlash and challenge new champion Triple H for the Undisputed Title. Hulk Hogan's re-emergence as a popular babyface put a spanner in the works there. Vince McMahon, realising he had to strike while the iron was hot with Hulk, put Hogan in 'Taker's place.

That wasn't the only change to Backlash.

Initially, Triple H was written to beat Hulk and then drop the title to The Undertaker at Judgment Day. Again, plans changed, and it was Trips who altered them. He believed it'd be a cool moment to see Hogan win the belt one last time, and he was willing to put him over.

That's the only reason why Hogan vs. 'Taker happened at Judgment Day at all. Coming full circle, The Undertaker then defended the Undisputed Title against Triple H at King Of The Ring after beating Hulk the month before.
