Many fans were worried that, based on the main event finish of SummerSlam 2016, a Brock Lesnar vs. Shane McMahon match was penciled in for a future main event.

When asked by Wade Keller on the SummerSlam review podcast about whether or nor Austin believed WWE was moving towards a Brock Lesnar vs. Shane McMahon match, Austin said no and expounded on why he felt it wasn't in the cards.

The Rattlesnake mentioned how he doesn't seem much upside in putting Shane out there as a sacrificial lamb and the next line of victims in the wake of The Beast Incarnate. Austin praised Shane McMahon both as a person and as a worker and said he "loved the guy", but he didn't think WWE would be wise to book towards that particular showdown.

Clearly, Austin feels that Shane would not be going over Brock and there would be little to gain by Brock clashing with Shane. It's almost a lose/lose scenario in that, if Shane looks like a threat and is credible, it weakens Brock; if Brock squashes Shane, it doesn't do much for him and doesn't elevate him any higher than he already is since that would be the expected outcome.

If it were up to Austin, Brock vs. Shane would not be on the drawing board.
