10 Things We Learned From The Undertaker On Ryan Satin’s Podcast

8. When He Went All In On ‘Taker

It'd be a solid year before Calaway was right into the swing of things.

He told the podcast that The Undertaker character didn't feel natural until shortly before he wrestled Hulk Hogan for the WWF Title at Survivor Series 1991. He'd realised how much his gimmick stood out compared to others, of course, but 'Taker took a while to get comfortable.

The guy had studied top names like Hulk, The Ultimate Warrior and Jake Roberts for tips on how to bed into the WWF scene. Somehow though, he didn't really believe he was doing a very good job of it. That all changed when he worked Hogan, because the match was validation for his efforts.

From there, 'Taker branched out his studies to include horror favourites like Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers. Those movie villains weren't actually on his radar for the gimmick until approx one year in, which is astounding to think about given their obvious similarities.
