As much as he loved the money that was rolling in via Vince McMahon's WWF, Dino couldn't stand the role he was asked to play. That's one of the doc's most stunning revelations. Bravo wasn't fond of the anti-American character he portrayed on company television at all.

He stomached it for the moolah.

Dino realised that he had no say in the matter and had to do as he was told if he wanted such a fat contract with McMahon. Several talking heads in VICE's film reveal that he was never comfortable playing such a hated anti-USA gimmick. He was so used to being the hero, so playing a despised villain didn't come naturally.

That's news to this fan. When one goes back to watch Dino's work on the WWE Network, he just looks so smug as a heel. He had the sneering smile, the cheating ring style and the begging off cowardly act down to a fine art. That (his entire WWF run) was all for the money.
