10 Things We Learned From You Cannot Kill David Arquette

9. The Right Reasons

You Cannot Kill David Arquette
Super LTD

Hating David Arquette for becoming WCW Champion is a waste of energy. The idea for him to take one of wrestling's most storied straps came from Vince Russo and was implemented by Eric Bischoff, against Arquette's wishes. The documentary reveals that he didn't want to win the Big Gold Belt as he knew it'd be seen as disrespectful, though WCW booked it anyway, ensuring his eternal place in wrestling infamy.

19 years later, he returned to the sport to clear his name. He didn't want to be seen as a joke in a business he had spent his entire life following. Enthusiastically waxing on Randy Savage, Miss Elizabeth, and other childhood heroes, his love for the sport is evident, and he set out to change the general perception of him by doing it the right way: by starting from the bottom.

The first "gym" we see Arquette training in barely qualifies as one, but he couldn't start anywhere else. Clearing his name meant taking the opposite path to the one taken in 2000, beginning with the grimiest, dustiest, spit-and-sawdust school on the East Coast, not slingshotting straight to the top.

Yet none of this would matter had WCW not made him a pariah in a business he has always adored.
