10 Things We Learned From You Cannot Kill David Arquette
7. David's Mexican Excursion
The documentary is at its most fun when David heads on a Mexican excursion as part of his training, so excited about the trip that he's diving around his hotel room in preparation, launching elbow drops from his dressing table to the bed.
Arquette's luchador trainers consider throwing him out of their gym (a concrete hole in the ground with a ramshackle ring) for botching a running headscissor in the first scene. By the end, they're gifting him a mask, bestowing lucha libre honour upon the former actor.
In between these moments is a riot of a scene in which Arquette and co. literally wrestle in traffic. David makes a meal of it the first time around, pulling no tips as he walks up to the car windows afterwards, palms open.
"I thought you said this guy was cool?", complains one of his surly, disappointed trainers. In a microcosm of the film itself, Arquette nails it by the end, executing an elaborate, choreographic lucha sequence culminating in him diving off a ladder and onto the concrete, earning applause and tips.
The trip comes at a cost, however: back in the US, hospital staff as David if he has been in a car accident, such are his injuries.
