811578A couple of years ago, before re-signing with the WWE and appearing on NXT, Rhino was working the indy circuit and turned up at a two-day heavy metal festival in Toronto, Canada, not far from his home town of Detroit. There, the former ECW champion was the biggest name on a card of unknowns working to entertain drunk metalheads between sets from the likes of Cannibal Corpse and Fleshgod Apocalypse.
And what happened? As Rhino gored an opponent through a table, an ECW chant broke out.
The initials ECW are beloved by the promotion's disciples unlike any others in the business of professional wrestling. While the WWE clearly has more fans, ECW arguably had the most passionate.
The kind of noise a little bingo hall in Philly could generate during an ECW event was incredible. And the lasting impression it made on the business? Undeniable.
