10 Things Wrong With Every Episode Of WWE Raw
6. Foley Is (No Longer) Good
Mick Foley is wresting royalty, and it almost hurts to criticise him.
Undefined and un-athletic, he got over in an era, in which superhuman musculature was a requirement, through sheer talent and ingenuity. He did so much to advance the art form beyond the anodyne, one-dimensional stylings of early 1990s WWF. He was such a great Commissioner in the Attitude Era, too, because he was do damn likeable - so much so that he transcended insincerity by creating a winning catchphrase that alienated 99.9% of the audience. It didn't matter which part of the planet you hailed from - you popped for a town you may never have visited.
Foley, in 2017, is spectacularly ill-suited to the live environment. He is cast in the babyface authority role because it was thought that his seniority would position him as an avuncular presence - but he's so prone to botching, and is ageing so rapidly before our eyes, that he's more doddering old man that respected elder.
On the September 19 RAW, he misquoted Mark Twain so badly that even the famous humorist wouldn't have found it amusing. "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the si- fight - size of the fight in the dog."
Such mistakes are so commonplace that the respect he once earned eroded as quickly as his weight.
