10 Things WWE Can Do With TNA
4. Take Advantage Of The Tape Library
“WWE are only in it for the tape library.” The sentence has been repeated a thousand times over the past few weeks, and it’s likely true. Rumours suggest that Dixie Carter was close to selling the rights to TNA’s footage to Vince McMahon a few weeks ago, but WWE came in with a low-ball offer that she just wasn’t willing to accept. It remains to be seen whether or not they’ll up the ante, but WWE are clearly interested, and the saga will continue.
Almost every major wrestling promotion has their video library available at the click of a mouse these days, but TNA are a notable exception. They’ve experimented with video on demand before, but it has never taken off, and while they’ve uploaded many of their finest matches to YouTube, you’ll have to track down a DVD to watch a full show. It’s an incredibly outdated distribution method, particularly in 2016, and both parties would benefit from said shows appearing on the WWE Network.
Such a move would likely bring a horde of new subscribers to the Network, while existing customers would benefit from the opportunity to enjoy some of TNA’s finest work without scouring eBay for a second-hand DVD. Moreover, acquiring the footage would allow WWE to produce highlight packages, documentaries, and a variety of other original Network content based on TNA’s history, making this one a no-brainer.
