10 Things WWE Fans Expected To See In 2017 (But Didn't)

9. A WWE Title Run For Baron Corbin

This one is cheating a little bit, because it didn't become a truly realistic prospect until June of last year. Still, Baron Corbin had been on people's lips as a future World Champion since he won that André The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32 in 2016. Thus, it's a shock he wasn't given a run as Champ in 2017.

The fact Jinder Mahal was makes it even more surprising. Corbin looked to be lightyears ahead of someone like Jinder, but his mega push didn't come until summer. Once Baron captured that blue briefcase at Money In The Bank (beating out the likes of AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura and Kevin Owens), he looked set to finally grasp the WWE Title.

It didn't happen. In fact, Corbin lost the briefcase less than 2 months after winning the thing and was embarrassingly booked as a failure John Cena could mock before SummerSlam.

Maybe 2018 will be Corbin's year to become SmackDown's top heel.
