10 Things WWE Fans Need To Know About Alundra Blayze

2. She's The Only Woman That Was WCW Cruiserweight Champion

Madusa won the WCW Cruiserweight Title at the Starrcade 1999 event. It is one of those historical facts that is cool to say that a woman won a man's title because it's so rare in pro wrestling, but it's also bad because of how prestigious the Cruiserweight Title was. She explained the logic of the move to WWE.com in 2010: "There was no one for me to wrestle. So they said, 'Let's do something different.'" She was paired with Evan Karagias, who she was attracted to, but also because he was the Cruiserweight Champion. She was able to lure him into granting her a title match, which she won. "The whole Evan Karagias thing was hot. I was so ahead of my time. I feel like Prince." Her run as Cruiserweight Champion lasted for 28 days. It took place during the period where Vince Russo and Ed Ferrara were brought in as the creative team for WCW after they had been in WWE. Ferrara started portraying a character named Oklahoma, who was there to mock Jim Ross. He challenged Madusa for the Cruiserweight Title even though he weighed much more than the weight limit. When Oklahoma beat Madusa for the Cruiserweight Title in January 2000 it was one of those things that was a nail in the coffin of WCW. They could have had her lose to somebody in a competitive match to tell a story. Instead the once coveted title held by the likes of Mysterio, Guerrero and Jericho became a complete joke. Don't blame her for the awful booking. It was another case of her doing what she was told and WCW doing something stupid, which happened a lot in that 1999/2000 period.
