It's pretty much a rite of passage for anybody entering the wrestling biz - at least, those of a more traditional mould - to have previously enjoyed a glittering college football career, with a select few even turning pro before combinations of injury, dispassion and general crapness convinces them to swap helmets for headlocks.

Safe to assume Cain must have planned to eventually wind up in the squared-circle; he was a star linebacker during his education, to the extent that he was offered a scholarship to play football with Arizona State.

Ultimately, Velasquez declined. Something of a P.E. ace, he reasoned that he had more potential as a wrestler than playing pigskin, on account of his body size.
