The sport of mixed martial arts is typically seen as a synthesis of three different fighting styles - kickboxing, amateur wrestling, and submission grappling in the form of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Though most competitors have a forte, it's hard to get too far in the sport without some acuity in all three fields, as well as the ability to put them all together.

Though VanZant started off her training with boxing, she's capable in all areas of the sport. She typically uses a lot of grappling, especially in the early goings, and is more than able to ground opponents if need be. She holds a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, making her a submission threat as well.

In the end, the results don't lie - VanZant's three UFC wins have each shown a different aspect of her offense. In her first match, against Kailin Curran, she won via TKO off punches. In the second, a decision win over Felice Herrig, her grappling was praised. Finally, her third win - over Alex Chambers - came via submission with an armbar.
