10 Things WWE Has Forgotten How To Do

3. Use Gimmicks To Heighten A Feud

Rewind through WWE history to see terrified faces on heels like Triple H, Kurt Angle and CM Punk when they were told they'd be locked inside Hell In A Cell with their mortal enemies. Then, fast-forward to last year's Cell-themed pay-per-view to see Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns equally relishing the violence.

Something about that doesn't quite seem right.

Hell In A Cell has become an excuse to fill time on the calendar rather than a killer example of how to heighten heated feuds. The same could be said for Extreme Rules, a show lacking any and all purpose, and TLC, another empty promise that shoe-horns rivalries to fit. All three of these events are devoid of the excitement their gimmicks once had.

WWE now put matches inside the Cell, tack on some weapons or throw in a ladder because that happens to be the next pay-per-view on the schedule, not 'cause it's the best thing for that story. If only they'd return to the old days when these box-office bruisers were used sparsely.
