10 Things WWE Regrets About Elimination Chamber

2. Killing Goldberg's Streak (SummerSlam 2003)

Goldberg's first WWE run failed for a myriad of reasons, but, uncle Bill could have been a Titan success story had the bookers handled him correctly.

WWE must shoulder most of the blame for derailing his first run, and the man himself was utterly fed up by the end, famously mailing it in with one of the worst matches in WrestleMania history against Brock Lesnar, during which both soon-to-depart stars were booed out of the building. Unfortunately, this journey down the rankings commenced at SummerSlam 2003, when Goldberg was booked in the second ever Elimination Chamber match.

The expectation was that Goldberg would emerge victorious. He was undefeated, after all, and that was exactly how WCW got him over back in the day, but after eliminating Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, and Shawn Michaels in a matter of minutes, Goldberg was upset by Triple H, who pinned him to retain his title.

It was a classic example of WWE refusing to put one of Ted Turner and Eric Bischoff's guys over one of their own. Goldberg did eventually become World Heavyweight Champion, defeating Triple H at Unforgiven, but the damage was already done.
