Having faced off at WrestleMania XXVIII, CM Punk and Chris Jericho would do battle once more at Extreme Rules 2012. Said rematch would take place in a Chicago Street Fight, with Chicago native Punk coming out the victor once more.

The match itself was good, but the element that leaves a bad taste in the mouth is the use of alcoholism and substance abuse to help build this rematch and further push the rivalry between the two.

Famously, CM Punk’s upbringing was littered with alcohol and drug issues amongst his family, which was the main factor behind Punk becoming straight-edge in the first place. People may call for WWE to stop being so PG, but seeing Jericho pour a faux bottle of Jack Daniel’s over Punk as part of this feud left a bad taste in the mouth of many.

Jericho and Punk have proven over the years how great they can be when put together, and said Extreme Rules 2012 match was solid, yet the way that serious issues such as alcoholism and drug addiction were portrayed here left a little to be desired.
