10 Things WWE Regrets About WrestleMania
9. Putting The Belt Back On Hulk Hogan
Let's move away from Kid Rock cavorting with Divas towards actual wrestling.
At 'Mania IX, Vince McMahon reverted to what had worked for him in the '80s by putting the WWF Title back on Hulk Hogan. This, with the benefit of hindsight, was a step backwards for the company. Fans were ready to embrace something new, and this Hulkamania reprise wasn't what company hardcores wanted in 1993.
In Bret Hart, the WWF had an exciting, new and dynamic worker who could do things Hogan couldn't. Rather than embrace that fresh direction, McMahon thought revisiting Hulk vs. a monster heel was the best bet, booked Hogan to bag the belt in Las Vegas and then promoted Hulk vs. Yokozuna at King Of The Ring.
Laughably, Hart continued his workmanlike march towards top dog status by outperforming both at the same event and showing why he deserved to be champion, not Hogan. Hindsight is 20/20, but this was a retread that shouldn't have happened.
