10 Things WWE Regrets About WrestleMania
3. The Miss. WrestleMania Fiasco
If some combination of Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair does close the show at WrestleMania 35, expect a hype package chronicling the journey of women in WWE. Don't expect that hype vid to include Santino Marella in drag being crowned 'Miss. WrestleMania' back in 2009.
WWE are probably deleting that footage from the Network as we speak.
In a climate rightly pushing top female athletes who are every bit as good as their male counterparts (and, in the cases of Charlotte and Becky, better than most), it's a bit embarrassing revisiting how WWE used to treat the women's division. When it wasn't being used as eye candy, it was being ridiculed by lame drag angles that'd make RuPaul seethe.
This was not well done or in any way entertaining. This isn't some soapbox-worthy equality speech either. It's simply true that the Santina character could easily have been introduced for a few giggles without making the rest of the female ranks seem like losers.
