10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About "Macho Man" Randy Savage

3. His Retirement Feud Against Shawn Michaels Was Shot Down

Randy Savage Shawn Michaels While Savage was sitting at the commentary desk in 1993, he felt like he could have had one more great feud that was really memorable. According to his brother Lanny Poffo (The Genius), Savage pitched a detailed storyline where he would have a two year feud with Shawn Michaels. At the time, Michaels was a rising star that was the Intercontinental Champion (or feuding for that title) and clearly on his way to becoming a main event player, which he became a few years later. Savage's idea was to have a long term feud with him where Savage would put over Michaels in a major match at WrestleMania, which would be the end of Savage's in ring career. His request for a major feud to put over Michaels was shot down. The reason given for it was because WWE wanted to push a new direction with the "New Generation" stars meaning that a guy Savage's age wasn't somebody they wanted to push. This would have been around 1994 when Savage was 41-42 years old. A long term feud with Savage and Michaels would have been amazing. Michaels ended up being a big star anyway, but it would have been cool to see what Savage had planned for them. It was just another reason for Savage to leave WWE in late 1994 although once again this isn't something WWE wanted to mention on their television shows.
