10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Mark Henry

2. He Reported Michael Hayes For Being Racist Leading To A Hayes Suspension

Michael Hayes has been a key backstage figure in WWE for a long time. You might remember him as "Dok Hendrix" the announcer about 20 years ago or his pre-WWE career as the wrestler Michael PS Hayes as part of the Fabulous Freebirds tag team. He's been a part of WWE's creative team for the majority of the last 20 years. He's also earned himself a reputation as a guy that likes to drink a lot and as such, has gotten himself in trouble a few times. The story regarding Henry is that when Hayes was the lead Smackdown writer in the spring of 2008, he was reportedly drunk at a party that may have been the WrestleMania 24 after party. Apparently Hayes went up to Henry and said something along the lines of: "I am more of a n***er than you are." Later, Hayes playfully gave Henry a headbutt likely because he was drunk. According to the Wrestling Observer, this led to Henry going to Vince McMahon to tell him what happened, which led to Hayes getting suspended for 60 days. Hayes is lucky that Henry didn't punch him or do something worse because he likely could kick his ass considering he's younger and bigger than him. It was right for Henry to report that because Hayes was management. Saying stuff like that was very unprofessional. The suspension made TMZ and WWE released a statement about it: "Due to inappropriate behavior, Michael Hayes was suspended for 60 days with no pay. In order to return to work, Michael Hayes will be required to undergo further evaluation." Hayes did return and is still with the company. It was not mentioned on WWE TV because it was a backstage thing that they didn't want to be known by the public. It was obviously something they wanted to forget.
