10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Randy Orton

6. "Eddie's In Hell"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9obJH5mCUw When Orton was feuding with Rey Mysterio in early 2006, they used the recent death of Eddie Guerrero to add some heat to the feud. Fans were very sympathetic for the underdog Mysterio because they knew he was close friends with Guerrero. What was sad about the whole thing was that even though Guerrero was a very popular employee in WWE, they used his death in a storyline. It triggered a more evil side of Orton as he manipulated Mysterio into giving him a chance to get into the World Title match at WrestleMania 22 and it worked. The most memorable aspect of the storyline was when Orton told Mysterio that Eddie was in heel. It was an example of WWE pushing a button to advance a storyline and to make Orton come off as more of a jerk. Ultimately, Mysterio got the win and the World Title in the triple threat match at also featured Kurt Angle. Looking back on it, WWE likely has some regret about using Eddie's death in a storyline where it really wasn't needed. Perhaps they're happy that it accomplished the goal of making Orton look like a jerk, though.
