10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Rob Van Dam

8. He Wrestled In WCW As Robby V Before ECW

Robby V If you watch WWE regularly then you might hear the announcers mention that RVD was one of the main guys in ECW, which is something most fans know. However, what they don't mention is that he spent time in WCW too. On the January 23, 1993 edition of WCW Saturday, RVD made his WCW debut simply as Robby V. His look was definitely different with a red singlet and he wrestled barefoot instead of with traditional wrestling boots. His finishing move was the split legged moonsault off the top although he really didn't hit it well because he landed on his opponent's legs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NC-ECg_qR8 Here's how Rob explained his WCW run in a 2013 interview: "I worked for WCW from December 1992 to May 1993. They said I was crazy to leave, I was on TV and I have only been working a couple of years. I went and worked Independents, and made a lot more money doing that. I have no regrets." It was the right move for him because he got experience elsewhere, became the face of ECW and went on to great success in WWE as well. If he stayed in WCW long term it would have been a big mistake on his part.
