10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Stephanie McMahon

8. The "Dark Wedding" She Almost Had With Undertaker

Stephanie was just an innocent 22 year old when The Undertaker abducted her at Backlash 1999. We didn't know much about her by that point except that she was Vince McMahon's daughter. It was a period when Undertaker was a diabolic figure that did things like sacrificing people. On the April 26, 1999 edition, a screaming Stephanie McMahon was brought to the ring by The Undertaker's henchmen (Viscera, Mideon, Bradshaw, Faarooq) on a wooden Undertaker symbol. Undertaker told Vince that he was to blame for what was about to happen. Paul Bearer was set to marry Undertaker to Stephanie when people like Ken Shamrock and Big Show tried to interfere, but those attempts failed. Bearer announced them as husband and wife in an "unholy union of darkness" although it was never official. Steve Austin ended up making the save. He beat up Undertaker, then freed Stephanie and that ended the ceremony. It wasn't done because he was a friend of McMahon or anything like that. He just did it because it was right. The commentators Jim Ross and Jim Cornette both said that, so you could tell that WWE wanted to make sure that fans understood that. Stephanie hugged Austin for saving him (awkward because Austin was never the hugging type), then Vince McMahon showed up to hug her and he thanked Austin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-c6wDFjQ8I A month later, we found out that Vince McMahon was the "Higher Power" in the storyline meaning that he knew what Undertaker wanted to do with his daughter and he was okay with it. It just showed how evil Vince was.
