6. Punishment Booking

As is always the case with such tell-all publications, Lee's 2017 book, Crazy Is My Superpower, brought several new revelations regarding her time in WWE to the table, with one of the most notable built around a quarrel with the writing staff in 2012.

Her love triangle storyline with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan had reached its natural end. AJ's "crazy" character was already problematic enough, but creative pitched she take things to the next level, suggesting Lee start hallucinating on television. She'd kiss leprechauns, dance with dinosaurs, and that would be the basis of her character.

Yes, really.

AJ didn't see the funny side. Having experienced her own battles with mental illness (and those fought by close friends and family) throughout her life, she refused to participate in an arc designed to make light of such situations. Lee said "no thanks," and as they tend to do, WWE went into punishment mode. AJ was taken off television and the road for three full months form July to August. She wasn't injured, and management refused to provide a reason, thus leading to the assumption that it was a punitive measure.
