10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About AJ Lee
2. Shooting On Steph
Comeuppance is rare for Stephanie McMahon, who remains WWE's most one-sided character. She's a brutal burial merchant who rarely gives anything back. Such instances are always satisfying, because they're incredibly rare, but as WWE's resident bulletproof deity, she has continually torn full-time roster members down without ever rebuilding the damage done.
Steph delivered a trademark tongue-lashing to Lee on the 17 June 2013 episode of Raw, ruining what should've been a title-winning celebration, and effectively sacrificing the Divas Champion to put herself over. The moment WWE would most like you to forget came on Twitter, though.
During the 2015 Oscars broadcast, Stephanie sent out a tweet congratulating Patricia Arquette for her speech on the acting industry's gender pay gap:-
A huge slice of hypocrisy from a woman with a stake in a company who'd been undermining female performers for years. Lee fired back, stating that women's wrestlers had set merchandise sales records and starred in Raw's highest rated segments, yet still received a fraction of their male counterparts' screen time and salaries, prompting a meek "thank you" response from Steph.
An embarrassing public dragging for Stephanie, but it did little for AJ, who was out of the company two months later.
