Before making his main roster debut under the now-familiar gimmick of Carlito 'Caribbean' Cool, Colon was originally made to try out a 'metrosexual' character. It's worth noting that, although this may sound fairly progressive, demonstrating an alternative lifestyle to the brawny WWE stereotype, we're dealing with Vince McMahon here. In his mind, 'metrosexual' was probably akin to 'homosexual', and he's never had a history of portraying homosexuality in a fair or accurate manner. Throw into the mix the fact that Carlito would have teamed with Rico - had the latter not suffered an eleventh hour injury - and the real direction of the gimmick becomes clear. Rico had debuted on the main roster as an overly-flamboyant "stylist", and it's likely Carlito would have suffered a similar fate. Carlito dodged a bullet with this one.
