10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Carmella
5. How Poorly Her Title Reign Ended
It's easy to forget that Carmella cashed in her MITB briefcase on Charlotte Flair in April 2018 and held the SmackDown Women's belt for a substantial 131 days. In that time, she came into her own as a heel, ditched Ellsworth and cut some super-strong promos on all comers. Finally, 'Mella was showing she was money.
Then, in the blink of an eye, it ended.
WWE's writers flashed their knickers at Charlotte and Becky Lynch instead. At SummerSlam, Carmella (the champion, don't forget) was a definite hanger-on in the Triple Threat match for her title. The real story was Becky's dream and Flair's willingness to intrude on it so she could become champ instead. That, dear reader, is when 'The Man' was born.
Meanwhile, Carmella was left looking like an absolute afterthought. She wasn't involved in the finish, failed to regain the title in an aimless rematch two weeks later and was moved aside so creative could focus on some former BFFs.
